摘要

Many transplant programs perform toxicology screening as a routine part of their transplant candidacy evaluation. The results of such testing, if positive for illicit drugs, may require the patient to undergo more comprehensive psychiatric evaluation and/or treatment and undergo further toxicology testing to provide evidence of sustained abstinence from substances of abuse before being considered for transplant listing. Depending on the requirements of the specific program, listing may be delayed until such testing is negative for several months or longer. Marijuana is the most common drug of abuse in the U.S. and, thus, the most likely illicit substance to be identified by transplant programs on toxicology screening.
