Questions abound where utility coal market is concerned

While RFPs are scarce and likely will be in the East for several more weeks, at least, there is a fair amount of "under the radar" activity on potential new contracts. Much of the wrangling is related to questions regarding how much undelivered coal will be pushed forward from 2004 into 2005, and how much contracted tonnage will get delivered. Those are questions that won't get answered for some time, and buyers need to be creative to deal with their common refrain. Enough coal is under contract, "if I get it delivered. On paper, I'm doing great."
