Looks like the greenies can chalk one up in the "W" column. Eastman Kodak has decided to close one of two coal-fired plants at its Kodak Park in Rochester, NY. The Kodak Park coal-fired plants, as well as a chemical waste incinerator "over the years have drawn scrutiny from regional environmentalists," according to the Rochester Democrat & Chronicle, Of course, Kodak won't give the greenies any credence and claim the closings weren't related to environmental disparagement. Okay, so maybe the greenies can't claim all the glory for the closures. After all, with digital imaging all but consuming the photography industry, Kodak was already in the midst of a company restructuring plan, which included disposing (in one form or another) two-thirds of its world wide manufacturing assets. Kodak Park is a prime target. A decrease in products equals a decrease in power needs for the process - common sense, right? Kodak also told the Democrat & Chronicle it anticipates energy demand at the Rochester facility to be off by nearly one-third next year compared with 2005 levels.
