Steel outlook, economy in Europe expected to get worse before it gets better

The European steel industry, still suffering immensely due to the economic doldrums, will probably see conditions worsen slightly the remainder of the year. Crude steel output in the EU 27 was down 4.6% during the first half of 2012 and is projected to decline perhaps 6% for the year, according to Chris Plummer of Metal Strategies, who believes quite a while still is needed for Europe to overcome the tough times and enter a sustained recovery mode in the steel sector.
