Arch Coal is going to run its own show where it comes to International Coal Group, and that's how it should be - Arch has the chops - but it's a good time to revisit Schoolhouse Rock in praise of the letter H. In this case, that would be H as in Hatfield and Hardesty. ICG has come a long way since 2007, when it began a bold and successful recovery from some substantial body blows, beginning with the awful Sago disaster in January 2006. The company was able to battle back from Sago not in small part because of the forthright way it handled a terrible situation and because CEO Ben Hatfield proved to be a capable, compassionate leader at a time of intense stress.
