Cement industry has capacity idled, long road to recovery, greater coal demand

While economic growth is strengthening noticeably in some sectors, the U.S. cement industry is still suffering from a disturbing lack of demand, and a return to business as usual likely isn't on the near-term horizon. That's not particularly good news for domestic steam coal suppliers, though some are benefiting from cement facilities that are fuel switching from high-priced petroleum coke to better coal alternatives where possible (See separate story in today's edition).
