Consol's Brett Harvey says company investing in natural gas because fuel buyers 'tell us that's the future'

When asked why his company is focusing so fervently on natural gas, Brett Harvey, CEO of prolific Northern Appalachian coal producer CONSOL Energy, has a pretty straightforward answer. "Why are we in the natural gas business? Because fuel buyers tell us that's the future," Harvey said at the Eastern Fuel Buyers Conference in Orlando. "Our customers are telling us that's the next thing they are going to build. You can't build a coal plant. The government won't let them. They say 'we know our load will grow, so we will build a gas plant.'"
