EIA looks back at good old days of U.S. coal exports ... that would be last year

While the price for coal going into Europe continues to drop and the price of coal going into Asia is so-so -China's price for imported steam coal just hit a 22-month low - the Energy Information Administration released a report that says without those two destinations U.S. exports could fit in a bass boat. A recent EIA "Today in Energy" report breaks down the U.S. export market for 2011 and it's no surprise that Europe and Asia are the continents that got the lion's share at 76 percent. The report looked at coal in total and also broke it down between met and steam exports.
