Shareholders of both Duke Energy and Progress Energy "overwhelmingly" approved the proposed merger of the two companies - a deal that will form a coal-burning juggernaut and is expected to be complete by the end of the year. We know approval was overwhelming rather than underwhelming or even whelming because both companies used the word overwhelming in separate press releases that reported the results. These are the kinds of synergies one can expect from any merger of this magnitude.
