Weather doing its part for suppliers, but coal stockpiles still fairly high at most U.S. locations

It might not be happening at the pace coal suppliers would like, but stockpiles in the East are on a slow downward course, at least at a number of power plants. The first wave of cold weather several weeks ago triggered the increased coal burns, which were fairly substantial for some utilities. Another massive storm that has crippled a large portion of the East no doubt is putting a dent in coal inventories. Make no mistake: there is still plenty of coal on the ground at many facilities. Still, there is some lowering of stockpiles taking place.
