Environmental Protection Agency delays decision on Arch Spruce No. 1 permit

Anytime the Environmental Protection Agency mentions Arch Coal's Spruce No. 1 mine it sets off a firestorm of media speculation and echo-chamber blabbering among environmental groups. It's happened again now that the EPA has announced it will wait until September to announce whether or not the mine's permit - which was granted over three years ago - will be vetoed. The delay will last through at least September 24, and will come within days of it being a full year since the Obama administration said Spruce No. 1 may be a non-starter. It was on October 16, 2009 that EPA said it was considering withdrawing the planned Logan County, WV mine's permit and sparked months of negotiations and court challenges that have resulted in a notice being published in the Federal Register on July 12.
