For those still trying to read their crystal balls and figure out where the coal market is heading in 2010 and early 2011, look no farther than the industrial coal sector. .. sort of. As of right now, the industrial coal users are lining up more coal for the remainder of the year than they did this time last year, and that's good. A lot of that coal is going to replenish stockpiles that were burned in lieu of buying more coal last year during the bad economy, and that's not so good. "Right now it's on a slight incline, but the incline is going up slow," said one coal producer who supplies several industrial accounts in the Southeast and Midwest. "Are things better than they were last year? You bet. Are they as good as things usually are in even an average year? No."
