Progress Energy Florida seeks approval for nuclear units

Following the lead of other Florida utilities, Progress Energy Florida is turning away from coal-fired generation to power the future. The company has submitted a filing with the Florida Public Service Commission outlining its need for additional electricity and plans to meet requirements with two nuclear units in Levy County. The proposed project, according to President and CEO Jeff Lyash, is designed to help Progress Energy Florida meet its energy needs over the long term, along with the use of renewable energy sources and energy efficiency programs.
