Conference survey: expect U.S. to continue as significant coking coal exporter for next few years

About half of the attendees at the recent CoalTrans Europe Conference in Prague expect U.S. coking coal exports to grow over the next three years, especially interesting in that the survey was taken after the global credit crisis reached full flower. Another 16 percent of delegates who participated in an interactive survey during the conference expect U.S. coking coal exports to stay were they are today. Twenty-one percent of those who participated in the survey were coal producers, 12 percent steelmakers and 12 percent other coking coal consumers. Twenty-five percent of the respondents were traders, nine percent shippers and 21 percent members of other parts of the industry.
