It's not clear the Kingston kick in the ash will have a noticeable impact on near term coal market conditions. Seven of the nine units at Kingston (TN) are shutdown, TVA noted. But so are several other TVA fossil units, due to reduced demand for electricity as mild weather remains in the Tennessee Valley. Many areas of the U.S. have been cold. The Southeast hasn't been one of them, and that; has implications -where Central Appalachian coal demand is concerned. Producers needed a good winter. Early on, the weather was promising. Another week of short-sleeve January will make it very difficult to recover.
