China steel production sets one-month record, but year-to-year worldwide production down

World crude steel production for the 66 countries reporting to the World Steel Association was 106.5 million metric tons during August. The total is 5.5 percent lower than August 2008. China's production for August was 52.3 million tonnes - 22 percent higher than August 2008. It was the highest amount of crude steel China has ever produced in one month.
