It doesn't take an expert to see that this expenditure offers huge potential for investing in the UK economy driving innovation and helping to boost economic growth. Accounting for one seventh of the UK's total GDP and an average of ?3,500 contribution for every person in Britain, the size of public sector procurement spend makes it key to delivering quality public services and to ensuring that taxpayers' money is used most effectively and efficiently Over the last decade there have been a number of initiatives to use this colossal budget more effectively but, as most political quarters, whether central or local, seem to agree, public sector procurement is still not managed as well as it could be.
