I was working as a prison psychologist trying to help prisoners to solve their problems, when someone said to me: "Instead of looking at individuals, you should work on the whole prison." It was a seminal moment that started me thinking about understanding organisations and how they work. I asked myself: "If we design a better system would prisons better achieve their purpose in society?"
