ISO disaster standard

After lengthy consultations, this month ISO established ISO/TC 223, a technical committee working towards a standard for 'civil defence/protection and emergency situations'. However, questions have arisen as to the viability of an international 'disaster standard'.The decision to establish a committee was taken before the attack on America on September 11 and ISO has given no indication that the events will alter the committee's schedule. A spokesperson said that until US authorities have carried out an inquest, it remains hard to establish whether quality standards could have made a difference in New York.
