Tertiary phosphines have found broad applications in organic chemistry.Several of the classic "name" reactions (Wittig,Staudinger,Mitsunobu) involve the use of triorganophosphines.Dealing with the synthesis of different amino acid based building blocks,we use tertiary phosphines for preparation of N-alkylated amino acids;amino- and thio derivatives of hydroxyproline;serine p-lactone and for inversion of asymmetric center configuration in chiral molecules.
