Consider the structure of a typical large-scale or mega-project that fits the definition of a programme management project (there is no formal definition of programme management, but for the purposes of this article we will stick with: 'The coordinated management of a portfolio of projects'). The programme management project is illustrated in figure 1 (overleaf) and is made up of several components.
