Pratt Industries restarted its 990-tons/day recycled containerboard mill on Staten Island in New York City, eight days after curtailing due to Superstorm Sandy. The mill, located near the Arthur Kill on the west side of Staten Island, was mandatorily evacuated Oct. 28 as the storm approached. There was no structural damage but a 13-foot surge of saltwater at the height of the storm knocked out more than 100 motors and electronic equipment, a company official said. Employees were not allowed back to the site for 48 hours. The mill restarted on Monday.
