WM puts $60 million in special-sort MRFs in

East, Southwest, West Initiating its third advanced sorting system project in six months, Waste Management (WM) Recycle America this Week launched its advanced optical sorting material recovery facility (MRF) in northeast Philadelphia and anticipated handling up to 240,000 tons/yr at the plant. The other two were started first in Houston at about the end of last year and earlier this year in Surprise, AZ. At the Texas and Arizona plants, the project cost was about $20 million per plant and each operation takes in unsorted material.
