Counter to the trends of broadly higher input costs of energy and chemicals, US paper and board mills enjoy relatively low woodfiber costs in the South, well below levels seen in the Northwest. Modest price reductions continued across most of the Southern region in the first quarter, despite sharply escalating fuel costs for harvesting and delivery.
