Three large North American tissue producers made moves last month to grow larger, one by acquisition, one by starting up a new paper machine, and the third considering one or two new PMs.The moves from Clearwater Paper, Irving Tissue, and Kruger follow a flurry of expansion projects announced in the US tissue business in 2010. In the next two years, more than $2 billion in expansions are planned in the US South including by First Quality, Georgia-Pacific, and Clearwater. With all the expansion activities, the battleground over the next two years in tissue centers on private label and consumer at-home products, contacts said.
