Majors jump aboard with mostly $40/ton hikes for this month

Virtually all North American coated recycled boxboard (CRB) producers set $40/ton price increases in September, after Paper-Works Industries announced an increase for late-August, according to industry sources. Mills say they are busy but are struggling with margins due to rising recov- ered paper expenses as well as energy and chemicals costs. The new board increase would raise current CRB prices by about 4%. After two increases this year, July levels of $910-930/ton were 11.5% higher than a year earlier.
