AbitibiBowater pushes for higher newsprint prices overseas with $30 rise in Brazil; no move yet in US

While making no move yet to increase newsprint pricing in the US, AbitibiBowater is seeking to raise prices in some overseas markets, sources said this week. AbiBow told customers in Brazil it plans to raise its newsprint pricing by $30/tonne effective Oct. 1 — to offset increasing costs, market participants told PPI Latin America this week. And North American sources said they expect the newsprint maker to set similar increases in other markets in South and Central America.
