Major producers plan 5% October price rise, Koehler coy on US plan

Four major thermal paper producers - Appleton Papers, Kanzaki, Koehler, and Mitsubishi - plan 5% increases in the USA on their 48- and 55-gm2 point-of-sale (POS) grades in the first week of October, company and market contacts said. It could be the first increase on thermal paper in the USA in more than a year, since roughly late summer 2008.Rising market pulp pricing was cited for the increases and there along with reduced POS prices this year. Market pulp list prices in the USA surged 20% the last four months on northern and southern bleached softwood kraft, and on bleached eucalyptus.
