US box shipments stay weak in August; board Inventories remain flat

Despite signs that US manufacturing activity may be picking up, corrugated box shipments were still weak in August, although con-tainerboard inventories remained relatively flat, according to latest industry statistics.Box shipments declined by 9.6% in August year-over-year on both an actual and average-week basis, the Fibre Box Assn. reported today. This was similar to the 9.4% year-over-year decline in July.
