After many years of effort to reduce operating costs and improve profitability, West Fraser will permanently close its 450,000 tonnes/ yr Eurocan linerboard and kraft paper mill in Kitimat, BC, effective Jan. 31.The 40-year-old mill, which has capacity to produce around 335,000 tonnes/yr of kraft linerboard and 115,000 tonnes/yr of extensible sack kraft paper, "historically struggled with high costs and negative returns," the company said.
