Prices hold broadly flat as hikes steady market despite weak demand

North American newsprint prices checked their nine-month slide and this month were holding broadly flat with August levels, despite efforts by some producers to implement a 35/tonne Sept. 1 hike, contacts said. It marks a halt to a record-breaking ten-month freefall that wiped 340/tonne off the price of US newsprint.
