The first installment of a 60/tonne first-quarter newsprint price increase is taking hold in the North American market,sources said last week.The 20/tonne increase for each of the first three months of 2008 was slated by almost all North American newsprint suppliers late last year.Most supplier contacts said they were holding firm "without exception" on the increases.But while publisher sources conceded the January hike appeared "fairly successful," some contacts among the biggest newsprint buyers said they did not expect to pay the full 20 in January.
