Suppliers who hoped that their 25/tonne Sept.1 newsprint price increase announcements might stop the slide in North American newsprint prices have been disappointed, sources say.The price of standard 30-lb newsprint in the USA declined 6-7/tonne this month, according to a Pulp & Paper Week survey.Aggregated with the month-by-month creep of steeper discounts and customer rebates, the transaction price of 30-lb newsprint on the US East and West coasts at 570/tonne in August was 10 lower than the 580/tonne published in July's PriceWatch. The price of 27.7-lb in August was 615/tonne,according to contacts.
