The four-year long upward march of standard newsprint prices in the U.S.reversed this month-with prices declining 5/tonne to 670/tonne for 30-lb newsprint.Contacts last week said prices are at best drifting sideways and in some cases declined.Buyer sources spoke of a "seismic shift" in the market,while supplier contacts called the current 20/tonne Aug.1 increase proposal "pretty well dead" and one described pricing as being on the brink of a "precipice." The increase for Aug.1 was the third one for this year.
