The major rise in U.S.recovered paper exports fully soaked up by China

All of the rise in U.S.recovered paper exports from 2000 to 2004-nearly 3.6 million tons-was due to additional buying from China,which increased its U.S.purchases by 4.4 million tons during the period,according to figures from an American Forest & Paper Assn.report.China purchased 2.04 million tons of U.S.recovered paper in 2000 and 6.47 million tons last year-a 216% increase.At the same time,total U.S.recovered paper exports peaked at 14.1 million tons last year,up 1.6% over the previous high of 13.9 million tons in 2003.
