Mexican converters in Monterrey and Tijuana start containerboard PMs

Two corrugated converters in northern Mexico are installing containerboard machines for start up in May. Both refurbished paper machines were reportedly purchased from mills in the UK. Papeles y Cohyersiones de Mexico (PCM) plans to start up its first containerboard machine in Monterrey in a $35 million investment, PPI Latin America reported. The 98-in. trim PM is targeted to reach production of 92,000 tonnes/yr of recycled linerboard and corrugating medium production in two years, but initial output will be lower. A second phase of the capital spending program would take eventual target capacity to 140,000 tonnes/yr. The machine will supply PCM's nearby corrugated sheet feeder plant in the Monterrey area. In addition to corrugated, PCM also converts digital paper, labels, and office supplies, and has a half dozen distribution centers in Mexico.
