Resolute to indefinitely idle one of three Catawba LWC PMs; supply cut lifts producers' hopes for price increases

Resolute Forest Products will indefinitely shut one of three paper machines at its Catawba, SC, coated papers and market pulp mill tomorrow. The machine to be shut is the 150,000 tons/yr lightweight coated paper (LWC) PM 1, the mill's smallest and oldest machine that was installed in 1962. Its closure will reduce Catawba's papermaking capacity to 581,000 tons/yr, including 21,000 tons/yr of coated freesheet (CFS) and 36,000 tons/yr of uncoated mechanical.
