Just one month after northern bleached softwood kraft (NBSK) market pulp prices rose, downward pricing pressure in offshore markets such as China spread to North America, and summertime bargain hunting is now underway, contacts said. Canfor Pulp was the first to move down its list price on June 28, to $l,020/tonne for US customers, effective July l. Several other NBSK producers including Alberta-Pacific (Alpac), Domtar, Mercer International, and West Fraser shortly later announced $1,020 for July business.
