US box shipments for 2009 totaled 345.6 billion ft2 - the lowest annual level since 1992, according to Fibre Box Assn (FBA) statistics released this week. Last year's 7.7% decline was the biggest annual percentage decline in shipments since 1975 - reflecting the worst US recession in decades. The 7.7% decline followed drops of 3.9% in 2008 and 1.4% in 2007 from a recent peak of 394.8 billion ft~2 in 2006.
