US East-West gap falls by $10 as producers firm up on $40/tonne increase

The gap between US East Coast and West Coast newsprint prices continued to close in October as more of the $40/tonne increase that most western producers began implementing in September was in the market. Pricing in the East was unchanged. Sources said the western increase was implemented "in full" with most small buyers last month, while some large buyers still resisted part of the hike in October. Yet with North American newsprint supply and demand tight, producers are said for the most part to be holding firm on implementation.
