Soft landing for pulp so far as US pricing holds across grades, spot erosion eases; NBSK perks up in China

North American pulp producers expected a soft landing after prices declined for the first time in a year and a half last month, and held unchanged this month. A seasonal bounce in demand, slower price erosion in US spot markets, and improved softwood demand in China kept northern bleached softwood kraft (NBSK) pulp's effective list price flat in September at $990/tonne, contacts told PPI Pulp & Paper Week. Southern bleached softwood kraft (SBSK) remained $940-950.
