The number of North American pulp and paper makers filing for bankruptcy court protection from creditors has risen to 10 in the past 14 months, with two in thelast week. White Birch Paper, which is a major newsprint producer, filed this week (See story, p. 2). Mississippi River Corp (MRC) filed for Ch 11 bankruptcy protection last week, following the bankruptcy filing of its financing bank CIT Group in the fourth quarter of last year.
