Appleton out front on fourth hike of the year; BPA is still on the stage

In what would be its fourth announced price increase this year, Appleton Papers — the largest US producer — plans a roughly 4-5% or $0.40 per MSF rise on its thermal POS paper, effective with shipments starting Nov. 15, contacts said this week. Further, one contact said Germany's Koehler Paper, which along with Apple-ton produce about 75% of North America thermal paper demand, was to announce a thermal increase, effective most likely on Dec. 1. Another contact noted that Kanzaki also was to respond. The combined three producers — Appleton, Koehler, Kanzaki — produce 85-90% of North America's thermal POS paper.
