Containerboard downtime since 4Q totals 16% of US capacity, with 1.36 million tons from shut PMs set for 2Q

North American containerboard producers appear to be taking almost as much downtime in the second quarter of 2009 as they did in the previous two quarters since demand first began sharply dropping last October.Producers will take 1.36 million tons of containerboard downtime in the second quarter, based on estimates through May, compared with 1.65 million tons in the first quarter and 1.52 million tons in fourth quarter 2008.
