Port Alberni gives Catalyst more than C2 million tax break to save directory PM 4

The possibility of a 105,000 tonnes/yr indefinitely idled directory paper machine restarting at Catalyst Paper's Port Alberni,BC,mill moved closer last week when the city responded to an appeal for additional tax breaks.Councilors reduced the mill's property taxes by C125,000 annually,on top of a C300,000 reduction they agreed a year ago.The overall tax reduction amounts to C2,125 million over five years.
