US paper, board production falls another 1 % in 2015 nearly to level at the end of the Great Recession

A 1% decline in US paper and paperboard production put last year's total output of 79.0 million tons, back down to almost where it was coming out of the Great Recession in 2009. Production dropped an unprecedented 10% in 2009 from the global economic recession that caused machine shutdowns and nearly 20 company bankruptcies in North America, including from some of the largest industry players. US production popped back up the next year by 5% in 2010, and since declined almost all of the remaining 5%.
