Exports to China up by 4% last year, in first rise since 2011; total exports up 2%

After three straight years of decline, US exports of recovered paper to China increased by 4% in 2015 and total exports rose by almost 2%, according to US government figures. The increase in exports to the US's No. 1 export market of China was the first one sequentially since 2011, when exports to China peaked atop a more than 10-year run-up to 15.77 million tons. From 2011 to 2014, the exports to China then declined by 1.5 million tons as paper producers in China gained more local raw material from its fast-growing domestic system of 125 million tons/yr of paper and board capacity.
