Fibria sets $20 increase on BEK worldwide, Arauco moves in China

Seeing price momentum in bleached eucalyptus kraft (BEK) after a temporary closure at a key mill in China, two of the world's largest market pulp producers announced a fresh round of price increases in key global markets this week. On Aug. 19, the world's largest producer Fibria of Brazil announced to customers worldwide that it would increase BEK $20/ tonne. Fibria's new list prices were slated at $920/tonne in North America, $830/tonne in Europe , and a $720 list across Asia. If there's a broad move to lift US BEK prices to $920 and the price is fully implemented, it would lift effective list prices to a four-year high and its highest level since $920 in May 2011, according to PPI Pulp & Paper Week data. Effective list prices today include bigger discounts than in 2011 in the USA, so net prices wouldn't be as high as they were four years ago.
