Twin Rivers buys Cascades kraft envelope business; to make output at Madawaska

Twin Rivers Paper acquired the kraft envelope business of Cascades that shut down operations early last month in Quebec and will produce Enviro Kraft Envelope paper at its Madawaska, ME, mill. Cascades made recycled-content kraft paper at its 109,000 tons/yr East Angus, QC, mill, but shut the operation on Oct. 8. Cascades called the mill business "unprofitable" and noted being up against growing kraft paper bag competition from converted newsprint machines (see related story, p. 2).
