Georgia Pacific (GP) added a $24 million fiber recovery capital project at its Brewton, AL, mill in addition to a previously announced $375 million energy project now underway, according to a local press report before Thanksgiving. "This new project will allow us to recover our fiber and return it to the system, thus increasing the efficiency of our operations," a GP official told the Brewton Standard. Under an agreement with the city, GP's non-education sales tax on the purchased equipment and the company's non-education ad valorem taxes for 10 years on the purchased equipment will be abated.
